Siebenbürgen was created in Sweden in 1994 by lead singer and guitarist Marcus Ehlin.
Following the release of two demo tapes; “Siebenbürgen” and “Ungetum Pharelis”, the band provoked the interest of Austrian metal label Napalm Records and was subsequently offered a recording contract with them in 1997.
The first album to be recorded by the band was “Loreia”, a dark metal offering that featured violins and had strong influences of Nordic folk music. “Loreia” saw the band emerging from obscurity and took them out on their first European tour.
In 1998, as a result of the success of “Loreia” the band hit the studio again to record their second album, “Grimjaur”.
In 1999, after signing a three-album deal with Napalm Records, Siebenbürgen began recording their critically acclaimed epic tale: “Delictum”. This album took a staggering six months to complete but the end result spoke for itself; it was a success and quickly became Siebenbürgen's best selling album that far.
Following “Delictum” the band recorded and released “Plagued Be Thy Angel”. Pushing their musical limits even further it was an album that saw Siebenbürgen designing the unique blend of gothic and black metal that has become the trademark sound of the band for the new millennia. Once again they toured Europe for filled venues and in the spring of 2003, for the first time in the history of the band, they conquered Mexico. With four albums on the market they had no problems doing a celebrated two and a half hour show every night.
After taking a short breather the band reloaded and began recording their fifth full length album, “Darker Designs & Images”, in the summer of 2005. This album featured one of the songs from the early demos as a bonus track to the fans.
In September 2007, Massacre Records picked up the band with a solid record deal. Tons of new material had already been written so all that remained for the crew was to start rehearsing for album number six. In April 2008 they went into the studio and started laying down the tracks for “Revelation VI”, a dark masterpiece forged in the same flame as the previous albums but executed with a new touch of evil, creativity and gloomy atmosphere. It also features a guest appearance by famed guitar-virtuous Andy La Rocque (King Diamond).
The engineers of the ensemble known as Siebenbürgen are: Marcus Ehlin - vocals and bass guitar, Richard Bryngelsson - guitars, Dennis Ekdahl - drums, Johnnie Gunther - keyboard, Joakim Ohlsson - guitars, and Lisa Bohwalli - vocals.
